Game Hunting Methods & Rifle Calibers

For those hunters bringing their firearms into South Africa, a SAPS 520 Import Form needs to be completed.

The best caliber to hunt this medium-sized African plains game includes a .243 and .270 caliber rifle. Remember, as always, that accurate shot placement is needed for an ethical and quick kill.

Hunting methods for the Blesbok include hunting from a blind near a frequented water source, spot-and-stalk, as well as walk-and-stalk options. For experience bow hunters, this trophy is calling.

    Tips when Blesbok Hunting

No African hunting safari is without challenges, yet the reward of five trophy Blesbok is certainly a great one. Check out these tips to consider during the safari?

    • Like many African plains game species, the Blesbok is more active early morning or late afternoon when it is cooler
    • Do your homework and learn about their behavior and habits, also ensure that your shot placement for this medium-sized antelope is accurate
    • While South African hunts are available throughout the year, the best time to hunt is from May to September, when the vegetation is shorter, allowing easier visibility for hunters. However, this also allows this wary antelope to see hunters during the stalk – use natural vegetation to aid in your stalk
    • For expert bow hunters, this Blesbok hunt is a great challenge to enjoy
    • Use a range finder to accurately judge distances
    • Practice long shots and be prepared to use them in the field
    • Hunt near fresh grazing or waterholes to increase the chance of a successful hunt

Complete the Blesbok Slam and add a unique collection to your Africa hunting trophies!
