    About The Hunting Ground

The hunt takes place across a 12,000-hectare free-range concession near Musina in northern Limpopo, where the landscape changes between open ground, bushveld and rocky areas. Mopane, Acacia and mixed vegetation provide cover throughout the hunting area, while the Sand River adds another distinct habitat to the concession. This varied environment suits a multi-species safari particularly well. Hunters may need to move between different types of terrain and adjust their approach according to the species being pursued. From stalking through thicker bush to working open areas for zebra, the concession provides a range of hunting conditions within one property.

    A 6-Species Plains Game Hunt

This safari is built around six varied species, from the larger Zebra and Impala to smaller game such as Duiker, Jackal and Baboon. Each species presents a different hunting challenge, requiring hunters to adapt their approach, shooting position and stalking technique throughout the safari.

With a mixture of antelope, plains game and smaller African species, this package offers hunters the chance to build a varied trophy collection during a single safari.

Why Hunt Plains Game in Limpopo?

Limpopo is a popular destination for plains game hunts, offering diverse bushveld habitat and a wide variety of African species. The region’s combination of open areas, thicker bushveld, rocky terrain and riverine habitat allows hunters to experience different hunting conditions throughout the safari.

A multi-species hunt such as this is particularly suited to hunters who want variety from their African hunting experience. Rather than concentrating on one trophy, hunters can pursue several species and adapt their hunting methods according to the animal, terrain and conditions.

The African Outfitter Hosting the Hunt

Run by brothers Dean and Hano, this experienced outfitter offers professionally guided hunting safaris in South Africa and Mozambique.

The outfitter operates hunts for plains game, specialty game and dangerous game across a range of hunting areas. Hunters can expect experienced Professional Hunters, organized camp services and comfortable accommodation throughout their safari.

Traveling to the Limpopo Hunting Grounds

International hunters traveling to South Africa will typically arrive at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg before taking a regional flight to Polokwane Airport in Limpopo. The hunting team will meet hunters at Polokwane before transferring them to the lodge and hunting concession near Musina.

For hunters planning an African hunting trip, Limpopo offers established hunting operations, comfortable accommodation and access to a wide variety of plains game.

Rifle, Shot Placement & Hunting Methods

This multi-species safari requires hunters to adapt their approach depending on the animal being pursued. Walk-and-stalk and spot-and-stalk methods can both be effective across the concession, with the terrain, vegetation and behavior of each species influencing the hunt.

Hunters bringing their own firearms into South Africa will need to complete the required SAPS 520 firearm import documentation. A .308 rifle is available for rental at US$55 per day, with ammunition at US$65 per box.

Hunters bringing their own rifle should choose a caliber they are comfortable and confident shooting accurately, with a .270 or larger generally suitable for the species included in this package.

Accurate shot placement is particularly important when hunting a mixed bag of species, as the appropriate aiming point varies according to the animal. Your Professional Hunter will assist with shot selection, distance estimation and positioning to give you the best opportunity for a clean and ethical shot.

Making the Most of Your Multi-Species Safari

A six-species package rewards hunters who are prepared to adapt. Each animal has its own behavior and preferred habitat, so be ready to change your pace, stalking method, and approach as the hunt progresses.

    • Let your Professional Hunter guide the strategy. Local knowledge of the concession and species behavior can make a significant difference.
    • Be prepared to walk. Spot-and-stalk and walk-and-stalk hunting may involve considerable time on foot.
    • Use the terrain. Open ground, bushveld and rocky areas each provide different opportunities for closing the distance.
    • Stay patient. A rushed stalk can quickly end an opportunity, particularly with wary species.
    • Take advantage of the variety. If conditions are not ideal for one species, use the time to pursue another included trophy.
    • Prioritize shot placement. A well-placed shot is more important than simply choosing a larger caliber.
    • Consider the season. May through September generally brings shorter vegetation and improved visibility across the hunting area.
    • Know your regulations. Make sure your firearm documentation and required permits are arranged before traveling.

Is This the Right Plains Game Hunt for You?

This 6-species safari is a good choice for hunters who want variety rather than a single-species hunt. With Zebra, Impala, Warthog, Duiker, Jackal ,and Baboon included, the safari offers opportunities to pursue both larger plains game and smaller species while experiencing different hunting techniques and terrain.

If you would like further information, want to add additional species or are considering bringing an observer, contact the Game Hunting Safaris team for details and availability.
